For the past several years, I have spent time almost every morning sitting in stillness and journaling.
With a cup of coffee in hand and my free-writing journal open beside me, I do my best to let go of expectations and simply allow. Some mornings the words come easily. Other mornings they don't, and that's okay. I've learned that the best things in life are rarely forced.
This quiet time has become one of my favorite parts of the day. It's where I connect, listen, wonder, question, pray, and often notice things I might otherwise miss.
And I've noticed a lot.
I've noticed how much the smallest things can affect the way a day feels. How good it feels to make something with my own hands. How being outside can change my perspective in seconds. How a beautiful room can make me want to linger so much longer. How much pleasure there is in giving something old another chance. How a quiet morning, an unexpected discovery, or a bird perched just outside the window can make an ordinary day feel like something so much more.
None of these things holler for attention.
Maybe that's why I find them so interesting.
I really believe the quietest things can be so easily overlooked, but when we notice them, they’re often the ones we remember most.
Perhaps that's because the moments that lift our lives rarely demand our attention—they quietly wait for us to notice them.
And that, more than anything, is why I created A Life Lifted.
I wanted a place to gather some of these things before they slipped away unnoticed. The things I make. The places I go. Things I'm learning. Things I notice. Ideas that intrigue me. Simple pleasures. Beautiful things. And probably a few things I haven't thought of yet.
I've always been a quiet observer, more comfortable living in the background. I don't necessarily want to change that, but I do want to participate more fully—to move through life with my eyes and heart open, to notice more, appreciate more, create more, and make room for the things that bring beauty and meaning to an ordinary day.
My hope is that sharing some of what I notice might encourage you to notice a little more, too.
Maybe you'll make something.
Maybe you'll go outside.
Maybe you'll look at something you've owned for years and suddenly see it differently.
Or maybe you'll simply be reminded of something good that was there all along.
If that happens, this simple little blog will have become exactly what I hoped it would be.
Thank you for being here.
Welcome to A Life Lifted.
